Connect a bank
Search for your bank, sign in through your provider, choose which accounts to share, and confirm the connection in BankSync.

Connecting a bank is the first thing you do in BankSync, and it works the same way no matter where you bank. You search one global list of institutions, BankSync routes you to the right open-finance provider automatically, you sign in through that provider's secure window, and your accounts appear on the Banks page ready to power a feed.
Your credentials stay with your bank
Before you start
The universal connection flow#
There is no region picker to choose first. You type your bank's name, BankSync detects the correct country and provider, and the matching secure login opens. The same four moves apply to a US checking account, a Canadian credit card, an Australian bank, or a brokerage:
Connect any institution
Open the Banks page and add a bank
Select Banks from the navigation, then click the dashed "Connect a new bank" tile. The "Connect Bank" dialog opens with the subtitle "Search and connect your financial institution".
Search and pick your institution
Type at least 2 characters into the "Search institutions" box. Results stream in as cards showing the institution name, supported account types, a country flag, and the provider. Click the card that matches yours. The bank's view opens and lists the ways to connect it, with the one that works best marked "Recommended" and already selected.
Sign in and give consent
Click the button that names the bank and the way, for example "Connect Chase via Plaid". The provider's secure window opens. Confirm the institution, enter your online banking credentials, complete any verification step, and tick the accounts you want to share. Account selection happens inside the provider window, not in BankSync. If you already have this bank in the workspace, BankSync first shows your existing connections and offers Reconnect or Add Accounts instead; "Create New Connection" appears only where the provider allows more than one connection to the same bank.
Choose where the transactions go
When the provider finishes, BankSync asks "Where should your transactions go?" Nothing leaves BankSync until you pick. Choose Google Sheets, a BankSync Table, an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, or "More…" for Excel, Notion, Airtable, a database and the rest. For a sheet or a table, BankSync creates one named after your bank (for example "Chase transactions"), sends every account's transactions to it and keeps it up to date daily (weekly on Starter). Choose "Not now" to decide later; your bank stays connected either way.
Narrow the search if you need to
How BankSync routes to a provider#
BankSync recommends a provider based on the institution's country and the type of account, and preselects it in the bank's view. You can pick another listed way there, but you rarely need to. It helps to know which one handles your connection so you can read the right region-specific guide for the finer details.
| Region / Type | Provider | What you can connect |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Plaid | Checking, savings, credit card, loan, and mortgage accounts at US banks |
| Canada | Plaid | Checking, savings, and credit card accounts at Canadian banks |
| Australia | Fiskil (CDR open banking) | Bank and credit card accounts at Australian institutions via the Consumer Data Right |
| Brokerages and investments | SnapTrade | Investment accounts: holdings, balances, and trade activity from supported brokerages |

Reconnecting does not ask again
Confirm it worked#
A bank you authorised at the provider always appears, even when the provider is still catching up; its accounts may show a moment later.
You have connected your bank successfully when:
- The institution appears as a card on the Banks page, no longer just the "Connect a new bank" tile.
- The accounts you selected in the provider window are linked to that bank.
- The bank shows an active state, not a "Requires re-authentication" or "Scheduled for deletion" label.

Next steps#
If you chose a sheet or a table when the bank connected, your first feed already exists. Otherwise, or to send the same bank somewhere else, build a feed that syncs its data to your spreadsheet or database.
