Updated September 2026
BankSync is a Tiller alternative for people who want automatic bank feeds outside the US or beyond spreadsheets. Tiller is a polished US budgeting system for Google Sheets and Excel at $99/year. BankSync also covers Australia, Canada and the UK, writes to Notion, Airtable and databases, and connects AI agents.
Both are good products aimed at slightly different jobs. This comparison uses Tiller's own pricing, FAQ and help pages, checked in September 2026, and BankSync's published plans.
What does Tiller do well?
Tiller has been the reference point for spreadsheet budgeting for years, and it earns that position:
- A complete budgeting system, not just a feed. Tiller's Foundation Template gives you a ready-made budgeting spreadsheet, and its AutoCat feature categorises transactions automatically.
- Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel. You install the Tiller Money Feeds add-on in either one.
- Daily imports and a morning email. Tiller imports data daily, and its "Hello, Money" email summarises your finances each morning.
- Simple pricing and a long trial. One plan at $99/year after a 30-day free trial, with a stated full-refund promise if it is not helping.
- Community and support. Tiller runs community forums and a help centre with templates and guides.
If you are in the US, live in Sheets or Excel, and want a ready-made budgeting workflow, Tiller is a strong choice.
Does Tiller work outside the US?
This is the most common reason people look for a Tiller alternative. Tiller's FAQ states: "We currently support US-based banks only." Its help centre adds that it is unable to offer connections to EU or UK banks, and that since March 2024 it no longer offers troubleshooting support for Canadian institutions. It does not list Australian coverage.
BankSync connects banks in four live markets through regulated routes: Plaid in the US and Canada (11,000+ banks and credit unions), the Consumer Data Right via Fiskil in Australia, and UK Open Banking via Salt Edge. If you bank in Sydney, Toronto or London, that difference usually decides it.

How is BankSync different from Tiller?
Destinations beyond spreadsheets. Tiller is built around Sheets and Excel. BankSync sends the same bank feed to Google Sheets, Excel (a workbook on OneDrive), Notion, Airtable, Postgres or MySQL, and webhooks, so a Notion finance dashboard or a small internal database can use the same data as your spreadsheet.
AI agents on your bank data. On Standard plans and above, BankSync's MCP server lets assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT read your synced transactions and balances with an API key you control.
History depth by market. BankSync's first sync backfills up to 7 years in Australia, up to 2 years in the US and Canada, and up to 90 days in the UK. Tiller does not publish an equivalent figure on the pages we checked, so we have not compared the two.
It is a data feed, not a budgeting app. This is the honest trade-off. BankSync does not ship an equivalent of Tiller's Foundation Template or daily summary email. You map columns into your own sheet or template and build the budget views you want.
How does BankSync pricing compare with Tiller?
Tiller is a single $99/year plan. BankSync is tiered by bank connections and features:
- Starter: $5/month or $48/year ($4/month). One bank connection, weekly syncs.
- Standard: $7/month or $72/year ($6/month). Five bank connections, daily syncs, MCP and webhooks.
- Professional: $20/month or $192/year ($16/month). Fifteen bank connections, hourly syncs, up to five team members.
- Business: $61/month or $588/year ($49/month). Thirty bank connections.
A household with up to five banks on daily syncs pays $72/year on BankSync Standard versus $99/year for Tiller. If you need more than five connections or hourly syncs, BankSync Professional costs more than Tiller. Check BankSync pricing for current limits.
Should you choose BankSync or Tiller?
Choose Tiller if you bank in the US, want a finished budgeting system with templates, categorisation and a morning email, and are happy to stay inside Sheets or Excel.
Choose BankSync if you bank in Australia, Canada or the UK; want your transactions in Notion, Airtable, a database or an AI assistant as well as a spreadsheet; want long Australian history; or already have your own spreadsheet and just need a reliable feed into it.
You can install BankSync from the Google Workspace Marketplace or read how the Google Sheets sync works.
