If you already have your own BankSync workspace, you can let your accountant or bookkeeper work in it. You keep ownership and keep paying for it. Their staff see it in their own workspace list, with the role you choose, and never use one of your seats.

## Share with your firm

1. Open **Settings › Accountant access** and choose **Share with a firm**.
2. Enter your firm's code (they'll find it on their **Clients** page) or your accountant's email.
3. Choose **Editor** (can connect banks, build feeds and edit) or **Viewer** (can see everything, change nothing).
4. Confirm. BankSync names the firm before you share. Your firm then accepts.

If your accountant isn't on BankSync yet, they get an invitation. Once they accept, you confirm their firm by name before they see anything.

You can share with up to three firms, for example a bookkeeper and a tax agent. The first is your **lead firm**, listed first wherever you and your firms see who you share with. Choose **Make lead firm** to change it at any time.

Sharing is free on every plan, Free included. Your firm's staff never use one of your seats, and your plan's bank connections are yours alone: the firm's plan isn't involved.

Don't have an accountant yet? **Settings › Accountant access** links to the directory of accountants and bookkeepers who work with BankSync, where it is available.

## When your firm asks first

If your firm asks for access, you get an email. Open **Settings › Accountant access** in the workspace you want to share and choose **Approve** on their request (or **Decline**). You choose the role and confirm the firm by name.

## Stop sharing

Choose **Stop access** next to the firm and confirm. Their staff lose access straight away, in the app and through any key or agent. Your banks stay connected, and anything already in their own files stays with them. A share the firm hasn't accepted yet can be cancelled the same way.

## For firms

- Your **Clients** page has two sections under one search and status filter: **Portals you pay for**, with how much of your plan's bank connections and feeds they use, and **Shared with you**, workspaces your clients share with you and pay for themselves.
- **Ask a client for access**, in the **Shared with you** section, emails a client who already has a workspace. They approve it from **Settings › Accountant access**, choosing your role. For a client who isn't on BankSync yet, use **Send a request** instead: see [Ask a client for bank data and answers](/docs/client-portals/client-requests).
- Shared clients' banks also appear in your own **Banks** list, marked with the client's name. They're read-only there: the client manages them in their workspace.
- Your **firm code** and **Team access** are at the top of the page. Clients enter the code to share with you; Team access chooses which staff work on which clients. Owners and admins work on every client.
- Removing someone from your firm removes their access to every client straight away.
- On Professional and Business you can work with any number of shared clients and see each client's connection health. Below Professional you can work with up to three.
- The combined client list, portals and shared workspaces together with who pays, is also available to scripts as `GET /v1/clients` and to AI agents as the `list_clients` tool. Sharing, approving and stopping access stay in the app.
- Your firm's staff can't connect new destinations, create API keys, or see billing in a client's workspace; they use the destinations the client has connected.

> **Australian banks:** Your firm can't connect your Australian bank for you. Connect it yourself; your firm sees it while you share.
